New Theatre Project TOI TOI NextGen Opens This September

The Teatru Manoel Learning and Participation Programme, TOI TOI, is launching a new project aimed at 16+ young adults titled ‘TOI TOI NextGen’. The project launches with Nan, Me and Barbara Pravi’, which will take place in the Studio Theatre from 19 till 22 September 2024.

Over the past three years, programme manager, Kate Fenech Field has been working on TOI TOI NextGen, scouting productions suitable for the Teatru Manoel Studio Theatre venue. ‘We wanted to scout trends within the black box theatre repertoire, and gauge the audience reactions,’ explains Fenech Field , ‘the primary goal for NextGen is to engage with the 16-30+ audience.’ With the emergence of a new generation of Maltese theatre-makers, creating fringe-friendly productions, many of whom have participated in the theatre’s youth training programme, TMYT, the NextGen project offers another opportunity for a new generation of theatre-goers to experience five-star    international shows in a relaxed environment.

TOI TOI NextGen opens with Hannah Maxwell and her critically acclaimed show, Nan, Me and Barbara Pravi. Combining spoken-word, video and chanson francaise, Nan, Me and Barbara Pravi sits you down at the kitchen table to talk through grief and care, addiction and recovery, and hope and coping in unprecedented times. NextGen Artists hold artist development workshops over the course of the production weekend; another chance for our artistic community to learn from experienced theatre practitioners. Hannah’s writers workshop is titled, Finding Your Voice

Nan, Me and Barbara Pravi runs from Thursday 19 to Sunday 22 September.
