Palazzo Falson Historic House Museum will be hosting children aged 6 to 12 to take part in a special seasonal workshop series, The Christmas Crib Series, celebrating the Maltese tradition of crib-making, or presepju. This engaging series will immerse young participants in the artistry and heritage of the Christmas crib while providing hands-on opportunities to craft and decorate their very own presepju.

Crafting the Maltese Crib – Il-Presepju

Children will learn about the cultural and artistic significance of crib-making in Malta, gaining insights into the detailed craftsmanship and history that make these cribs unique. In addition to a guided tour of Palazzo Falson’s historic collection, children will have the chance to design and personalise their very own presepju, which they can take home as a festive keepsake.

An Exclusive Workshop Series

The Christmas Crib Series is designed as a progressive experience spanning three workshops. By attending all three sessions, young participants will be able to create a complete and personalised Christmas Crib. Each session will build upon the last, allowing children to expand their creations as they learn more about the traditions, characters, and elements of Maltese Christmas crib-making.

Upcoming Workshops in The Christmas Crib Series:

1. Il-Pastur Tradizzjonali Malti – Sunday, 17 November, 10:30 am – 12:00 pm
   Focused on the traditional Maltese shepherd, children will explore the role of the pastur (shepherd) within the crib scene and create their own figurine for their presepju.

2. Ix-Xena tal-Presepju – Sunday, 24 November, 10:30 am – 12:00 pm
   This workshop will dive into the landscape and setting of the Christmas crib, where children can craft scenic elements that bring their entire crib scene to life.
