Malta Crowns Miriana Conte as its Eurovision 2025 Star

Eurovision fever has officially hit Maltese shores as Miriana Conte emerged victorious at the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2025. On Saturday night, the MFCC in Ta’ Qali was buzzing with excitement as 16 hopeful artists took to the stage, all vying for the chance to represent Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest in Basel, Switzerland this May.

It was a close race, with powerhouse vocalist Kristy Spiteri securing the judges’ vote with her song Heaven Sent, but the final decision lay in the hands of the public. As the televotes rolled in, Miriana Conte surged ahead, securing her crown with her cheeky, infectious song Kant. In total, she received 182 points, just edging out Kristy Spiteri’s 174 points. The night’s third-place winner, Kantera, brought a high-energy performance with Lalaratatakeke Lalaratakabum, scoring 137 points.

The moment Miriana was announced as the winner, the crowd erupted in cheers. Dressed in a striking animal-print bodysuit, she delivered a bold and unforgettable performance, complete with lively choreography and a show-stopping finale bouncing on a pink exercise ball.

Eurovision fans have been abuzz about Kant ever since its release, for its catchy melody and also for its playful wordplay. While ‘kant’ means ‘singing’ in Maltese, the word has sparked various interpretations internationally, adding to the song’s intrigue. Whether intended or not, this clever ambiguity helped Kant gain attention both locally and abroad.

Miriana is no stranger to the Malta Eurovision Song Contest stage, having first competed at just 15 years old. This year marked her fifth attempt, and her perseverance finally paid off. Many had tipped her as the early favourite, and her dazzling stage presence and charisma sealed the deal.

The night itself was an evening to remember. For the first time since the pandemic, the contest returned in full force with a live audience, making the celebrations even more electric. Fans were treated to a mix of pop, folk, and even traditional Maltese għana-based songs, showcasing the country’s variety of talent.

Adding to the star-studded evening, special guest Alexander Rybak, the 2009 Eurovision winner, performed his legendary song Fairytale, sending the crowd into nostalgic delight.

With Malta’s Eurovision representative now chosen, all eyes turn to Basel, where Miriana Conte will take to the Eurovision stage in May. With her confidence, charm, and oodles of talent, she is ready to make Malta proud!

Stay tuned, Eurovision fans,  Kant is coming!
