Last Chance to Experience Life & Passion Revisited by Renowned Artist Caesar Attard

The solo exhibition Life & Passion Revisited by renowned Maltese artist Caesar Attard is set to close on 8 March 2025 at Valletta Contemporary.

Curated by Norbert Francis Attard, this exhibition offers a fresh perspective on the artist’s exploration of religious themes and their evolution over several decades. It marks a pivotal moment in Attard’s career, revisiting works that reflect both personal reflection and significant artistic transformation.

The exhibition traces the origins of a project conceived in 1985, when Attard began creating a series of drawings centered on religious themes. These works later evolved into two sets of etchings, the first of which was showcased in 1992 at The New Gallery, National Museum, Valletta, under the title Life and Passion. The second set, which had remained private for years, is being publicly revealed for the first time in the digital age. This recontextualisation challenges and refreshes themes that remain deeply relevant in today’s world.

As Attard reflects, “By the turn of the millennium… instead of walking, we skateboarded while our brains melted on questions of belief, interpretation, and contemporaneity.” What were once considered relics of the past now speak with renewed resonance and significance in the contemporary landscape.

Additionally, the exhibition offers insight into the evolution of Attard’s artistic journey, from his early engagement with drawing and painting to his experimental works in participatory art and installations. Throughout his career, Attard has continually pushed the boundaries of traditional art forms, finding new ways to engage audiences and provoke thoughtful reflection.

Life & Passion Revisited is an unmissable exhibition for those interested in exploring the intersection of tradition and contemporary challenges. It offers a rare opportunity to witness the evolution of an iconic Maltese artist’s vision.

Valletta Contemporary is open Wednesday to Saturday, from 2pm to 7pm (closed on public holidays). The gallery is located at 15, 16, 17, East Street, Valletta, with free entry.
