Celebrating 110 Years of Tarxien’s First Sketches This March
On Saturday, 15 March 2025, artists of all ages and skill levels are invited to join a special event at the Tarxien Prehistoric Complex to celebrate 110 years since the first sketches of the site were made, shortly after its discovery in 1915.
This unique event will begin with a guided tour focused on the art of prehistory, highlighting the sketches created by Sir Temi Zammit during the initial excavations of the Tarxien Temples. Following the tour, participants will have the opportunity to engage in sketching and painting at the site. Participants are asked to bring their own art supplies, and only dry media is permitted on the site. Wet media can be used in a designated area where accidental spills will not affect the fragile archaeological remains.
Refreshments will be provided to participants. Later in the year, a selection of the artwork may be displayed at the Ochre Hall in the Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra Visitor Centre, following discussions and agreement with participants.
The event will run from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, divided into two groups of 25 participants each. The sessions will be conducted in both Maltese and English.
Tickets can be purchased online via Heritage Malta’s website or directly at any of their museums and sites. For any inquiries or assistance, participants can contact Heritage Malta at +356 79794906, at least 2-3 hours before the event begins.
To stay informed and receive important updates, including potential event changes, participants can follow Heritage Malta’s WhatsApp Channel.
