Universal Air to End Scheduled Flights from 30 May, What Travellers Need to Know

If you’re planning a trip to or from Malta this summer, there’s an important update to note. Universal Air, the Maltese airline based at Malta International Airport in Luqa, has announced it will cease all scheduled flight operations as of 30 May 2025.

The airline, which began operations in 2015 under the name Air CM Global Limited and rebranded as Universal Air in 2022, has been a familiar name for local and regional travellers alike. Known for operating under an air operator’s certificate issued by the Maltese Civil Aviation Directorate, Universal Air has served routes mainly across Europe and the Mediterranean.

In a recent statement published on its official website, the airline said:

After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to cease our scheduled flight services. We regret to inform you that all scheduled passenger bookings have been cancelled from 31 May 2025 onwards. The last scheduled flights will take place on 30 May.”

This means that if you’ve booked a flight with Universal Air for travel after 30 May, your booking will no longer be valid. If you’re affected, it’s advisable to get in touch with the airline directly for details on refunds or alternative arrangements.

That said, this isn’t a complete farewell. While regular passenger services are ending, Universal Air will continue operating charter flights and providing ACMI services (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance and Insurance). These are typically used by other airlines or for private group travel, and could still see Universal Air planes in Maltese skies, just not as part of their usual commercial schedule.

This development marks the end of another local airline’s scheduled operations for both residents and visitors to Malta. If you’re travelling soon, be sure to double-check your bookings and keep an eye on updates from Malta International Airport regarding replacement routes or airline alternatives.

Safe travels!
