Blue Lagoon swimming Zone Extended Ahead of Summer 2025

Team Blue Lagoon has expanded the designated swimming zone at the Blue Lagoon, enlarging the central swimming area and incorporating two nearby inlets. These newly included areas are now exclusively reserved for swimmers, offering a safer and more enjoyable experience in the iconic crystal-clear waters ahead of the 2025 summer season.

This expansion, along with enhanced maritime traffic management, forms part of a wider initiative aimed at improving environmental sustainability, safeguarding the site’s Natura 2000 ecosystems, and elevating the overall visitor experience.

The central swimming zone has been increased by 12%, and two smaller beaches located to the left of the jetty have been newly designated as safe swimming areas. Previously accessible to small boats and jet skis, these inlets are now cordoned off to provide a secure environment for swimmers. Vessel traffic and berthing operations have also been better regulated to reflect the needs of this high-traffic maritime area.

This development is one of several initiatives launched since 1st May as part of a comprehensive two-year sustainability project. Other key actions include enhanced waste management systems, new sanitation facilities, stronger enforcement measures, and long-term conservation efforts.

To support these upgrades, Team Blue Lagoon has doubled its cleaning and waste management workforce, increasing the frequency of cleaning routines across the entire area. Special attention is also being given to the surrounding garigue terrain, with teams actively removing litter to preserve the natural landscape. Environmental authorities and enforcement agencies are also increasing patrols to deter littering and other violations.

Additionally, on 1 May, Team Blue Lagoon introduced the Book. Protect. System, a free and user-friendly online visitor booking platform designed to manage daily visitor numbers and reduce environmental pressure on the site. During the peak of summer 2024, the Blue Lagoon saw up to 12,000 visitors at once. Under the new system, access is limited to a maximum of 4,000 visitors at any given time.

Bookings can be made quickly and easily at bluelagooncomino.mt.
