Meanwhile, Helsinki is back after a six-year break and is now operated by Norwegian Air. The flights are already running, and extra services will be added in July and August. These new routes arrive just in time for the summer travel rush. May was already buzzing at the airport, with over 927,000 passengers passing through. That’s an 8.1 per cent increase compared to the same time last year. With most flights nearly full (an 84.9 per cent seat load factor, if you like your stats), it’s clear that Malta is hot on everyone’s holiday list.

The UK held on to the top spot as Malta’s busiest travel market, making up 22.4 per cent of total traffic in May. But the biggest surprise came from Poland, which saw a massive 35.8 per cent jump in passenger numbers. More flights to Warsaw and the arrival of a new airline helped boost those numbers.
