Celebrate World Animal Day Tomorrow at Festa Annimali
If you’re around Malta this weekend and love animals, there’s no better way to spend a Saturday than at Festa Annimali, back for its third year at Ta’ Qali National Park. This family-friendly festival takes place tomorrow (Saturday, 4th October) at the Oak Tree Circle in the park, running from 10:30 in the morning until 4 in the afternoon. And here’s the best part: it’s entirely free to attend!
Festa Annimali has quickly become one of Malta’s favourite events. It celebrates animal welfare and the people who dedicate their time to caring for animals. From volunteers and NGOs to vets and local authorities, the festival honours everyone helping to make life better for our furry, feathered, and four-legged friends. It’s also a chance for visitors to learn more about responsible pet ownership in a fun and engaging way.
The day is set to be packed with activities for all ages. You can meet dogs, rabbits, and horses up close, enjoy workshops on pet care, and explore educational stands with advice on animal welfare. There’s plenty of live music, interactive stalls, and a dedicated children’s area, so the little ones can join in the fun. Looking for a new friend? Adoption advice and free personalised ID tags for cats and dogs will also be available.
Minister Anton Refalo says the festival shows Malta’s commitment to animals, while Parliamentary Secretary Alicia Bugeja Said encourages all families, especially those with pets, to come along and celebrate these important companions. Estelle Sant, Director of Support Services at the Ministry, noted that the festival coincides with World Animal Day, and George Farrugia from the Office of the Commissioner for Animal Welfare emphasised its role in educating the public about responsible pet ownership.
If you have never been, Ta’ Qali National Park is the perfect setting for a day like this. Located in the heart of Malta, the park used to be a Royal Air Force airfield but is now a spacious green haven, ideal for picnics, walks, and family outings. Nearby, you can wander through the Ta’ Qali Crafts Village to see local artisans at work and pick up a handmade souvenir, or visit the Malta Aviation Museum to explore the island’s aviation history.
Getting to the park is easy, with plenty of public transport options and on-site parking. Whether you’re a local or just visiting Malta, Festa Annimali is a wonderful chance to enjoy a fun day outdoors, celebrate the special bond between humans and animals, and experience one of the island’s most beautiful parks. Head over tomorrow to Ta’ Qali National Park, Oak Tree Circle, between 10:30 and 16:00. Don’t miss it!
