The Second Edition of the Order of Malta National Art Exhibition Opens at St John’s Cavalier

The Second Edition of the Order of Malta National Art Exhibition will open to the public on 24 October 2025 at St John’s Cavalier, Valletta. Bringing together the works of 194 Maltese artists, the exhibition will feature paintings, sculptures, ceramics, photography and mixed-media works.

This exhibition is potentially the largest collective art exhibition ever organised locally and will feature the works of painters and watercolourists, bronze artists, ceramicists, sculptors, photographers, and others.

Comm. Dr Pascal Demajo, curator of the Exhibition, chairman of the organising committee, and Council member of the Maltese Association of the Order of Malta, explained that the hosting of this exhibition is guided by a four-pronged vision.

“Our aims are clear. We wish to promote the arts in present-day Malta whilst also raising awareness and funds for the Maltese Association’s philanthropic causes. Additionally, this is an opportunity to nurture a love of culture and the arts in our youth through educational school visits which must not be missed,” added Dr Demajo.

By raising awareness about the Maltese contemporary art scene, which has been blessed with a wealth of talent, the exhibition also seeks to generate much-needed funds for the charitable causes supported by the Maltese Association of the Order of Malta. These include the Annual Pilgrimage to Lourdes, which involves approximately 340 participants; the funding of two sixteen-seater, fully air-conditioned tail-lift vans for Dar tal-Providenza; and support for two shelters,  the Blessed Gerard Residence, which provides accommodation for single migrant mothers and their children, and the Alberto Marvelli Residence, which offers refuge to homeless youths. The Order also conducts mentoring visits to foreign inmates who have no family in Malta.

The Association expressed its gratitude to the 194 participating artists who have committed to donating all or part of the proceeds from the sale of their works to these charitable initiatives.

In its effort to nurture cultural appreciation and young talent, the organising committee has invited schools across Malta to bring their students to visit the exhibition. During these visits, students will have the opportunity to admire the artworks on display, engage with participating artists, and experiment with artistic techniques themselves, all while discovering the historic setting of St John’s Cavalier and its place in Malta’s rich heritage.

“We thank APS Bank, our main sponsor, for its generous financial help and contribution to this Exhibition. Deserved thanks go to the organising and advisory committee members, and last but not least, I thank all those in advance who visit the Exhibition and especially those who through their acquisitions specifically contribute to the promotion of the arts in Malta, and to the raising of much-needed funds for the Association’s charitable causes,” added Dr Demajo.
