Entrance is free.
iMprint 7: Contemporary Intaglio is a group exhibition featuring more than 50 intaglio works by 30 Maltese and international artists, including renowned contemporary artist Caesar Attard. The exhibition is currently open at the Malta Society of Arts, Valletta, and will remain on view until 20 November 2025.
The exhibition forms part of an ongoing initiative spearheaded by Jesmond Vassallo, Lino Borg and Justin Falzon – three artists and educators who continue to champion the art of printmaking and its contemporary relevance.
Since its launch in 2013, iMprint has become a biennial event eagerly anticipated by both artists and audiences, as it remains Malta’s only exhibition exclusively dedicated to original artistic prints by some of the finest Maltese and international printmakers.
This year’s edition, titled Contemporary Intaglio, is curated by art historian and curator Christian Attard. It presents a diverse selection of intaglio prints, including a special focus on 20 works by Caesar Attard, which together form the two complete series Life and Passion. The exhibition also features works by members of ArtiGrafika, further reflecting the vibrant printmaking community in Malta.

iMprint 7 also marks the second collaboration with the Swedish Embassy in Malta and the Swedish Printmakers Association (Grafiska Sällskapet), founded in 1910, continuing to foster international artistic exchange.
What unites the participating artists is their commitment to experimenting with original printmaking, specifically within the intaglio tradition, exploring a range of techniques including aquatint, hard-ground etching, mezzotint, sugar-lift, spit bite and dry-point. One of the key advantages of this medium is that it allows artists to produce limited editions, making original art more accessible to collectors and the public alike. Each print is hand-pulled, signed and numbered, affirming its status as an original work of art.
“The iMprint series continues to play a crucial role in preserving and revitalising Malta’s printmaking heritage, opening new pathways for engagement, collaboration, and artistic exchange,” affirms Roderick Camilleri, Acting President of the Malta Society of Arts. “Contemporary Intaglio exemplifies the vitality and innovation that define this medium, revealing its enduring relevance within contemporary art practice. The MSA is proud to host such a collective, which not only celebrates technical mastery and creative experimentation but also promotes broader appreciation and awareness of the beauty, depth, and legacy inherent in the printmaking tradition.”
Through the iMprint series, the Malta Society of Arts celebrates ArtiGrafika’s dedication to keeping printmaking alive and dynamic, a collaboration that continues to strengthen artistic excellence and cultural exchange in Malta.
