De Valette Chamber Orchestra Presents Schumann, Suk and Tchaikovsky at Teatru Manoel This November
The second De Valette Chamber Orchestra concert will take place on the 25th of November at 8pm at Teatru Manoel, presenting a richly curated programme that reflects the orchestra’s commitment to expressive depth and artistic excellence.
The DVCO concert features German cellist Maximilian Hornung as Artist-in Residence, performing Schumann’s Cello Concerto under the baton of Karsten Januschke, one of Europe’s most compelling young conductors. The program also includes Suk’s Serenade for Strings and Tchaikovsky’s String Sextet Souvenir de Florence, a vibrant showcase of elegance and emotional depth. Recognized as one of the most distinguished cellists of his generation, Hornung’s artistry has graced the world’s leading stages, from Berlin’s Philharmonie and Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw to Vienna’s Musikverein and London’s Wigmore Hall. His collaborations with luminaries such as Anne-Sophie Mutter, Daniil Trifonov, Hélène Grimaud, and Christian Tetzlaff highlight his rare versatility and international stature.
Conductor Karsten Januschke adds distinction through his extensive operatic and symphonic work across Europe’s leading stages, from Berlin to Vienna. Praised for his natural authority, communicative artistry, and expressive precision, Januschke has established himself as a leading presence on both the operatic and symphonic stages. His international engagements have included appearances with the Semperoper Dresden, Volksoper Vienna, Komische Oper Berlin, Bavarian State Opera, and the National Theatre Prague, as well as concert performances with the MDR Symphony Orchestra, Deutsches Symphonie- Orchester Berlin, RSO Vienna, and the Budapest Philharmonic.

The DVCO performs under the inspired leadership of its Music Director and Concertmaster, Carmine Lauri, the internationally renowned violinist and Concertmaster and Principal Emeritus of the London Symphony Orchestra. The De Valette Chamber Orchestra stands as a refined embodiment of Malta’s cultural identity on the international stage.
