Ringing In 2026 in Valletta? Malta Public Transport Rolls Out Special NYE Services
If you are gearing up for Valletta’s New Year’s Eve celebrations this year, you can breathe a little easier. Malta Public Transport has confirmed a generous line up of late night buses on 31 December 2025, which means you can enjoy the party without the familiar race for the last ride home.
Sixteen regular routes and five night routes will be running extra trips well into the early hours, giving everyone a way to get home. A simple idea, though a welcome one, especially if you have ever found yourself stranded while fireworks crackle over the Grand Harbour. Travel is free for anyone with a personalised Tallinja Card and three euro for everyone else, payable in cash or contactless. No digging through pockets for loose change after midnight, thankfully.
A bit of festive housekeeping is worth keeping in mind. Sales offices and customer care desks will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. On both days, buses will pause between midday and three in the afternoon, then wrap up entirely from nine in the evening. It gives transport staff a moment to spend with their families, so best to plan ahead if you rely on buses during the holidays. Routes 150, X1A and 207 will also take a short break between 26 December and 4 January.
As for New Year’s Eve itself, you can expect services stretching to almost every corner of the island, from Bormla to Buġibba, Dingli to Ċirkewwa, and down towards Marsaskala and Marsaxlokk. Many routes will be running every twenty to thirty minutes, with several of the night services looping even more frequently. The full list includes S10, S12, N13, S13, S20, S40, S41, S47, N48, S51, S52, S61, N62, S71, S72, S80, N82, S85, S90, N91 and S94, each offering a spread of late night departures that mirror their usual destinations. Whatever your direction of travel, there is bound to be a bus that fits neatly after your last fizz-fuelled cheer.
For final checks, Malta Public Transport’s official channels will have the latest updates. With the extra services in place, it looks set to be one of the smoother years to travel in and out of Valletta during the countdown. However you choose to celebrate, here is to a Merry Christmas, a Happy New Year and an easy entry into 2026.
