Winter Nights in Valletta Get a Comedy Boost This January
Comedy lovers in Malta have something properly worth leaving the house for this January, as Malta Society of Arts in Valletta hosts a special run of live stand-up comedy from 10 to 13 January. Expect plenty of razor sharp jokes, bold but slightly questionable ideas, and an evening delivered entirely in English, or as the comedians like to put it, gloriously broken English.
Taking to the stage are Radu Isac and Victor Pãtrãşcan, two seasoned performers from the European comedy circuit who bring very different energies, and make them work beautifully together. Radu’s delivery is calm, dry, and precise, with punchlines that sneak up on you and linger longer than expected. Victor, on the other hand, thrives on cheeky observations, fearless ideas, and the occasional interaction with audience members who did not realise they would become part of the show.
Together, they explore politics, culture, religion, identity, and the everyday absurdities of modern life. These are the topics people love to argue about online, but in a comedy club they turn into something far more enjoyable. The humour is sharp without being preachy, and provocative without losing its sense of warmth. You laugh first, then catch yourself thinking about it later.
This show has a strong international following, and it is easy to see why. Victor, who tours almost constantly, has performed hundreds of self-produced shows across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, building an audience city by city. Radu, once known as Romania’s “comedians’ comedian”, has since made a name for himself in the UK and beyond, appearing on BBC, Channel 4, and Comedy Central, and opening for major international acts.
January evenings in Malta can feel surprisingly cosy, especially around this time of month. It is the ideal excuse to escape the wind, settle into a theatre seat, and enjoy a night that feels both smart and relaxed. Why not make a night of it and head out for dinner in the capital before the show, or for some post comedy drinks along Strait Street.
Tickets are available online from €15, with limited tickets on the door priced at €25. Shows often sell out, so booking ahead is recommended.
