Local Singer-Songwriter Dean Muscat Releases New Single I’ll Be Fine
Malta slows down in January, making it easier to catch up with what locals are creating. One recent release is I’ll Be Fine, a new single by popular Maltese singer-songwriter Dean Muscat, released on 22 December.
The single follows Muscat’s debut EP Lazarene, released in May 2025. Written by Muscat and produced by Jimmy Bartolo, the EP was recorded between home setups and local studios, including Ultralow HQ and Robert Bonello’s studio. Across five tracks, it centres on acoustic-led songs with light electric touches, keeping the focus firmly on the writing.
I’ll Be Fine continues in the same direction. Recorded at home, the track features contributions from Muscat’s band, The Lazarenes, with Jimmy Bartolo on guitars, Robert Galea on bass, and Luke Briffa on drums and percussion. The production stays simple, allowing the song to speak for itself.
The song arrives at a time when many people are taking stock after a long year. Its tone is measured and reflective, shaped by everyday concerns rather than grand statements, and it sits comfortably alongside the material on Lazarene.
Speaking about the track, Muscat describes it as a response to the weight of the past year.
“It’s been a year full of heavy headlines, and at times it’s hard to be optimistic. More than anything, this song is a reminder to myself that if I focus on what truly matters, family, friends, and those human connections that carry me forward, things will be fine.”
For visitors, this is a way to hear something made in Malta now, not in the past. Much of the island’s music is written and recorded locally, outside large studios.
I’ll Be Fine is available on all major streaming platforms and on YouTube. Muscat’s EP Lazarene can also be found on Bandcamp as a digital album, with high-quality downloads available. With more new music planned for 2026, this recent release offers a clear snapshot of where his work sits now, at the start of a new year.
