Walking Tour of Floriana to be held for Independence Day

Many of us might write off Floriana as the place where you park before heading into Valletta, but the fortified town plays a significant role in Malta’s history – on Independence Day no less. In fact, the parking lot formerly known as the Indepence Arena is where hoards of Maltese people gathered to celebrate the very night Malta gained independence. The Independence Monument itself, which was sculpted by John Bonniċi and erected in 1989, is located at the Maglio Gardens in Floriana
If you’re curious to know more, Heritage Malta is inviting the public for a walking tour of Floriana led by their Exhibitions Executive and local historian Mario Coleiro. You’ll get to see monuments, gardens, churches and even the iconic Vilhena fountain, all while hearing fascinating stories of Floriana’s past! Do be warned, the tour will be exclusively spoken in Maltese.
The tour will commence at Herbert Ganado Gardens and last from 10am to 12pm. Tickets can be purchased from one of Heritage Malta’s numerous museums and sites, or else you can get them online.
So, find your best walking shoes and make sure you get a ticket!
