115 years of scouting in malta celebrated with Festa Scouts 2023

Scouting is a popular extracurricular activity among Maltese children. It helps kids develop skills in academics, communication, leadership, and survival and more, all of which they carry into their adult lives. This month on Sunday 15 October, Festa Scouts will be returning for a special edition in celebration of 115 years of Scouting in Malta.

Organised by The Scout Association of Malta, the event unites numerous scout groups around Malta and Gozo every year, attracting up to a thousand Scouts each year. Festa Scout was conceived with the goal of honouring the Scout’s long history of community service and volunteerism, as well as spotlighting the values and expertise retained by its members. From ziplining to building wooden structures with ropes, Scouts carry out different activities in previously assigned groups. However, this event is open to anyone, regardless of involvement in Scouts.

Whether you or your child are prospective members or you’re simply nostalgic for your own experiences with scouts, you are welcome to join in the fun at the Għajn Tuffieħa International Scout Campsite in a couple of weeks. There, you can expect performances by the Scout groups as they demonstrate the skills and talents they have learned this year. Members of the public are more than welcome to join in through ‘Walk in Activities’, which are a great opportunity to get a taste of the work that is done at Scouts for yourself. Not only does the event raise recruitment both for Cubs (new scouts) and adult leaders.

The value of non-formal education is something we often underestimate, but kids can learn valuable skills outside of a classroom and that is exactly what Festa Scouts seek to emphasise. These groups are run by volunteers who take the time out of their day to be leaders because they care about shaping young people into proficient members of society on all fronts. Not to mention, this event offers those who are simply unable to join Scouts due to financial strain or business a chance to see what it’s all about free of charge.

The day-time event will be held at Għajn Tuffieħa International Scout Campsite on Sunday 15 October from 10 am to 4 pm. If you have kids or you’re just fond of such community events, Festa Scouts is a unique way to spend your Sunday.
