Fairyland Santa’s City returns this Friday: A Guide to the Rides

We are now six days into December and it is finally that time of year again. This Friday, December 8, Valletta’s iconic Triton Square will be transformed into Santa’s City for a fourth time since the first edition in 2019. Organised by Visit Malta, Fairyland perfectly coincides with the upcoming public holiday!

As always, admission into Fairyland is free for everybody. Between the many twinkling lights, the kaleidoscope of colourful rides, and the throngs of bundled up visitors, simply passing through on your way into the old city will get you into the festive spirit. What’s more, this year they’re bringing back the live music stage. Why not grab a cup of mulled wine or a hot chocolate to sip on while you walk around and enjoy some tunes?

The Christmas Market is unmissable, the stalls are lined up between the Christ the King landmark and the Triton Fountain, practically leading you into Santa’s City. You’ll find all kinds of conventional and seasonal products alike, from artisanal jams and cheeses to popcorn and cotton candy. Plus, among the stalls are several franchise food vendors, if you’re looking for a full on meal. And, you can even enjoy a beer at the cosy Swiss Chalet Bar.

Furthermore, there are several attractions everywhere you turn. Rudolph’s Big Wheel is one of the essentials, standing at 32 metres high, this bright ferris wheel is big enough to be seen from several areas of the island. Then, make sure to go easy on the mulled wine so you can enjoy Santa’ Magic Carousel, plus, you’ll need the concentration to knock down some pins or shoot some mini basketball hoops at one of the many Mini Game Booths. There’s also Little Airport, with little helicopters for the little ones to ride.

Moreover, kids can also enjoy Santa’s Grotto from 12 pm to 4 pm or from 5 pm to 9 pm. There, Santa and his elves will greet kids, and for an additional price, take photos with them as well as give them gifts. Lastly, Penguin’s Ice Skating is another big one, and it’s pretty self-explanatory. The ice rink is 900 square-metres, you can even purchase a penguin on the spot to help you keep your balance.

Each ride/attraction lasts about 5 minutes, save for Rudolph’s Big Wheel (10 minutes) and Penguin’s Ice Rink (50 mins). They’re all priced differently according to the ride and age, but you can save some time by having a look and pre-purchasing your tickets online here. Fairyland will remain open every single day from December 8 to January 7, 2024.  It opens at either 11 am or 12 pm, and closes at 10 pm or 11 pm, depending on the day. However, on all January days and Christmas Day, it opens at 4 pm and closes at 10 pm. A detailed timetable can be found here!

If there’s one Christmas attraction in Malta you want to visit, it’s definitely this one. See you there!
