Ever wondered why Christmas and Jazz music seem to go hand-in-hand? From Ella Fitzgerald with ‘Frosty the Snowman’ to Frank Sinatra, some of the biggest names in the genre have released Christmas songs. The reason is because many of these songs were created in the early-mid 20th century, when Jazz was at the height of its popularity. The genre’s smooth and soulful sound seemed to complement the holiday atmosphere rather aptly, and its association with Christmas has lingered to this day – it’s the time of year most associated with beloved singer Michael Bublé.

That being said, the Strait Street Sextet will answer the question in a more observable manner in a couple of days. This holiday season, enjoy the beauty of jazz with the Strait Street Sextet, a remarkable group assembling some of the top jazz musicians in the Maltese islands. The talented ensemble is composed of five performers led by famous pianist Paul Giordimaina; Nadine Axisa on Vocals, Joe ‘Bibi’ Camilleri on Drums and Percussion, Alex Bezzina on Trumpet, Anthony ‘Fesu’ Saliba on Electric Bass, and Mario Borġ on Saxophone.

The group will be playing a set of jazz standards (essential jazz compositions) along with some lesser-known songs, which will be followed by a second set of jazzier renditions of Christmas songs. The two sets will last about forty-five minutes each, interspersed with a nice 15 to 20-minute break. A magnificent blend of jazz and seasonal cheer will fill the air!
