Gozo art exhibition ‘Carpe Diem’ encourages finding beauty in the mundane
Luca Cauchi, a young artist from Floriana who resides in Nadur, is currently showcasing his artwork ’Carpe Diem’ at the Banca Giuratale in Victoria, Gozo.
The 34-year-old artist earned a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Graphic Design and Interactive Media in 2013. Luca mostly studied oil painting and drawing skills from the classical masters on his own. He frequently made references to the great masters of the past, especially to Sargent, Titian, Rembrandt, and Zorn. In 2015, Cauchi participated in a three-year project as an artist member of the École d’art au village Association in collaboration with the HSBC Catch The Drop campaign. His pieces can be found in numerous private collections both locally and abroad.
From Cauchi’s perspective, every moment of life offers tremendous beauty that is frequently missed, which is essentially what ‘Carpe Diem’, (‘seize the day’ in English) means. The exhibition invites visitors to explore settings where the transient takes centre stage. Every artwork in this collection acts as a doorway, encapsulating the very nature of transitory moments in oil paint. The exhibition meticulously provides a close look at the subtle wonder of the ordinary.
The artist urges everyone to embrace life’s inherent beauty and discover the extraordinary in the commonplace through this body of work. The investigation of the human form and its conditions is the work’s main goal. Moreover, painting is treated as a means of recording one’s environment, interests, and life.
The Minister of Gozo, Clint Camilleri, opened the exhibition on December 7, where it will remain on display until December 28. Carpe Diem is open from 7 am to 2.30 pm, Monday through Friday, as well as from 9 am, to 12 pm on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays.
