Valletta exhibition reflects on the relationship between mankind, the land, and the passage of time

Starting 3 weeks from today, on February 16, you are invited to step into a world where the ideal and the imagined are contrasted yet interwoven. This Valletta exhibition will showcase the works of 8 artists, namely Francesca Beltrame, Noah Fabri, LaLaLa Collective, Femmy Otten, Florence Peake, Sephora Schembri, Dasha Tsapenko, and Rakel Vella.

DREAM [of] LAND is a multidisciplinary exhibition project that blends stories of identity, belonging, and home via the intersection of craft and art-making. It compiles a collective body of work that investigates the material manipulation of weaving, moulding, and carving—not just of traditional materials but also of stories, recollections, and legacies. By viewing matter as an active agent with its own historical significance and potential for dreams and change, the exhibition aims to reinterpret and challenge the meaning of matter and materiality.

The stories the land carries and our connection to it are inextricably linked, creating a symbiotic relationship with time. Thus, DREAM [of] LAND investigates the following question: Can we reinvent our relationship with time in order to restore our connection to the land? Through its constant navigating of the borders between past, present, and future, the exhibition invites us to question the margins in the midst, where we were once one with the land. Boundaries and binaries are blurred in this dreamland,

Curated by Elyse Tonna and Sarah Chircop, DREAM [of] LAND was commissioned by Spazju Kreattiv and will be open on their own premises in Valletta until April 21. The exhibition is supported by the Italian Cultural Institute in Malta, Arts Council Malta, and Culture Moves Europe, an EU-funded project.
