Malta's Maria Farrugia Named Barclays Women’s Championship Player of the Month

Malta’s Maria Farrugia has scored big by clinching the title of Barclays Women’s Championship Player of the Month for March, all thanks to her outstanding performances with Lewes FC.

This Maltese powerhouse was the driving force behind her team’s victories against Sheffield United (2-1) and Watford (2-1), netting two goals and delivering two assists.

But her impact doesn’t stop there. Farrugia also played a vital role for the Malta national team in their UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 qualification campaign, facing tough opponents like Northern Ireland and Portugal.

With an impressive record of 42 caps and seven goals for Malta, Farrugia, a former Sunderland player, continues to shine both on the domestic and international fronts. And let’s not forget, she even scored the goal of the month for January 2024 with Lewes FC women.

As a midfielder for Lewes in the English FA Women’s Championship and a key player for the Malta women’s national team, Farrugia’s talent and determination are truly making waves in the world of football.
