Catching up with Maltese Singing Starlet Gaia Cauchi
Few artists begin their journey as early as Gaia Cauchi in the world of music. From her first performances at two and a half to winning international competitions and performing on grand stages, Gaia’s story is one of passion, dedication, and remarkable talent. We had the pleasure of sitting down with Gaia to discuss her incredible journey, from her early inspirations to her latest projects.
Early Inspiration
Q: What or who inspired you to start singing, and how did you discover your passion for music at such a young age?
Gaia: My journey with music began at the tender age of two and a half. Initially, I explored dancing, drama, and singing, but my mum recognised that I had a special talent for singing. During a Christmas concert at my kindergarten, the head teacher noticed my performance and advised my mum to enrol me in singing lessons. This encouragement set me on the path to discovering my passion for music.
Eurovision Experience
Q: Can you share your experience of winning the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2013? How did it impact your career and personal life?
Gaia: Winning the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2013 was an incredible yet challenging experience. Being in the spotlight at such a young age meant my childhood was far from typical. I was constantly on the go, travelling abroad twice a month as various countries invited me to perform. This exposure pushed me to continually challenge myself by participating in more competitions and festivals outside of Malta. While it accelerated my career, it also required significant sacrifices in my personal life.
Musical Evolution
Q: How has your music evolved since you first started, and what genres or styles are you currently exploring?
Gaia: Since I first started, my music has evolved significantly as I’ve explored various genres. I’m still in the process of discovering which styles resonate most with me, but I have a particular fondness for ballads, as they suit my voice well. This ongoing exploration allows me to grow as an artist and find my unique musical identity.
Future Projects
Q: Are there any upcoming projects, albums, or collaborations that you’re particularly excited about?
Gaia: Yes, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve been working on some diverse music projects with various producers and songwriters from different countries. We’ve created some exciting songs that I’m eager to release soon. Stay tuned for more updates!
Advice for Young Artists
Q: What advice would you give to young aspiring musicians who look up to you and want to follow in your footsteps?
Gaia: Never give up on your dreams. There will be days when things don’t go as planned, and you might feel like giving up, but perseverance is key. When you achieve something, you’ll realise there’s still a long way to go and so much more to learn. The journey is ongoing, and it’s important to stay committed and keep growing.
