A Sweet Celebration for All as Strawberry Festival Returns to Mġarr This Sunday

The highly anticipated Festa Frawli is almost here, and it’s shaping up to be one of the most delicious and exciting days on the Maltese calendar! Taking place this Sunday, 27 April 2025, in the picturesque village of Mġarr, the annual Strawberry Festival brings together local farmers, professional chefs, musicians, and artisans for a wonderful day of food, culture, and fun. Did you know, “frawli” is the Maltese word for strawberry!

For visitors to Malta, Festa Frawli offers the perfect opportunity to experience the island’s agricultural traditions and the bounty of the spring harvest. As you explore the pretty village in the north of the island, you’ll find stalls filled with fresh, locally grown strawberries, homemade jams, delightful desserts, and even strawberry wine. If you’re craving sweet strawberry treats or leaning towards something a touch more savoury, there’ll be plenty of options to satisfy your taste buds, just be sure to arrive early to avoid missing out!

The festival goes beyond food with an exciting programme of traditional music and folk dance performances, giving you a snapshot of authentic Maltese culture. You can also explore a variety of artisan stalls, where local craftsmen and women will be showcasing their handmade creations, providing the perfect chance to pick up a unique souvenir to take home.

Families will find plenty to enjoy as well, with activities for children including animators, train rides, and painting competitions. It’s an event that promises fun for all ages, making it a great choice for those travelling with young ones.

For those keen on exploring Malta’s history, both Ta’ Ħaġrat and Skorba, two of the island’s most important archaeological sites, will be open to the public. Heritage Malta is offering discounted tickets, allowing visitors to experience both sites in one day. Additionally, guided tours of Ta’ Ħaġrat will be available in Maltese and English from 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM. Tours are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Reaching Mġarr is easy with public transport options available from Valletta (routes 44 and 238) and Ċirkewwa (route 101). If you prefer to drive, it’s advisable to arrive early to secure parking, as the event draws in very large crowds.
