Gladiator Returns to Fort Ricasoli for a Spectacular Open-Air Screening

This special open-air screening will take place on 14 June at 9pm at Fort Ricasoli in Kalkara, and the best part? Entrance is completely free.

In a powerful return to its cinematic roots, Ridley Scott’s epic masterpiece Gladiator will be screened under the stars at the very site where key scenes were filmed, at the majestic Fort Ricasoli.

The event marks a unique moment of cinematic nostalgia and national pride, as Malta kicks off celebrations for 100 years of film. As part of the Mediterrane Film Festival, running from 21 to 29 June, the screening offers both locals and international visitors a chance to relive one of Hollywood’s most iconic films in an unforgettable setting.

Fort Ricasoli, one of Malta’s most prominent historic forts, famously stood in for ancient Rome in Gladiator. Audiences now have the rare opportunity to experience the film within the very walls that helped bring Maximus Decimus Meridius’ story to life.

Organisers promise a memorable evening celebrating Malta’s deep ties to the global film industry. The Mediterrane Film Festival will feature screenings, workshops, industry panels, and tributes to the island’s century-long cinematic journey.

As Malta continues to grow as a hub for international filmmaking, events like this screening not only honour the past but also showcase the island’s enduring appeal to filmmakers and audiences alike.
