Museums by Candlelight to Light Up Valletta This Saturday
This Saturday, 21 June, Valletta is set to host the first edition of Museums by Candlelight, offering a magical evening of art, history, and music across five iconic sites, all beautifully illuminated by thousands of candles from 7:00 om to midnight.
Valletta is set to glow with the warm, flickering light of thousands of candles this Saturday evening as it hosts the first edition of Museums by Candlelight in the capital. Following the remarkable success of its two editions in Birgu, this enchanting event now brings its unique charm to Malta’s historic heart, promising a magical start to the summer season.
From 7:00 pm until midnight, visitors can explore five of Valletta’s most iconic cultural and historical landmarks, all beautifully illuminated by candlelight. For just a €5 donation, attendees will gain access to:
The National Museum of Archaeology, located in the majestic Auberge de Provence, where Malta’s prehistoric treasures will be accompanied by live performances from a classical musical trio in the elegant Gran Salon.
The Grand Master’s Palace, featuring newly opened halls animated by In Guardia historical re-enactors from 8:30 PM to 10:00 PM. Guests will also enjoy live jazz music by the Dominic Galea Jazz Quartet in this opulent setting.
In Guardia
MUŻA – Malta’s National Community Art Museum, where centuries of Maltese and European art will be enhanced by the sounds of violinist Mario Ciantar.
St John’s Co-Cathedral, offering a rare opportunity to witness Caravaggio’s masterpieces and the cathedral’s baroque interior under the soft glow of candlelight.
The Church of St Catherine of Italy, a lesser-known architectural treasure designed by Girolamo Cassar for the Italian Knights. This church is the only surviving example of a Hospitaller church still connected to its original auberge and is soon to be incorporated into MUŻA’s expanded visitor experience.
Tickets, which cover entry to all five venues, can be purchased here, from any Heritage Malta site, or at the door of the three participating Heritage Malta venues during the event. The €5 donation applies universally, including for Heritage Malta members and passport holders.
