Gozo Ceramics Festival to Bring Art to Life Across the Island This August
Gozo Ceramics Festival 2025 kicks off on 1 August with a month-long exhibition at the Cittadella, followed by a seaside celebration in Xlendi Bay on 2 August, 2025
Gozo is set to come alive with colour, culture, and craftsmanship this August as it hosts the Gozo Ceramics Festival 2025, a unique, two-part celebration of ceramic artistry featuring over 70 artists, live demonstrations, and family-friendly entertainment. Organised in collaboration with Alka Ceramics Ltd, the Ministry for Gozo, the Gozo Cultural Directorate, and the Munxar Local Council, the festival promises an unforgettable experience for art lovers, locals, and visitors alike.
A Dual Showcase of Ceramic Excellence
The festivities begin on Friday, 1 August, with the Gozo Ceramics Exhibition opening at the Cittadella Cultural Centre in Victoria, Gozo, at 8:00 pm. This curated exhibition will feature works from more than 30 ceramic artists, including a selection of emerging young talents from Gozo and beyond. The exhibition will remain open to the public for one month, offering a deeper look into the techniques and creativity behind contemporary and traditional ceramic art.
The celebration continues on Saturday, 2 August, with the 12th Annual Gozo Ceramics Festival at the picturesque Xlendi Bay, from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm. This popular seaside event brings together over 40 ceramic artists for live demonstrations, showcasing everything from wheel-throwing to hand-building techniques. The festival transforms Xlendi into a dynamic open-air studio where art is made in real time, offering visitors the chance to interact with artists, try their hand at clay, and even take home a handcrafted piece.
More than just an art fair, the Gozo Ceramics Festival at Xlendi is a full cultural experience. Attendees can enjoy a diverse program of traditional music, brass band performances, and dance shows throughout the evening. Families will find plenty to engage children, including interactive clay activities that allow younger audiences to get creative with their hands.
A highlight of the evening will be a special performance by an international ceramic artist, Thomas Benirsche, known for the extraordinary feat of throwing pottery while cycling, offering a captivating blend of athleticism and artistry.
Whether you’re an art enthusiast, a curious traveller, or a family looking for an inspiring summer outing, the Gozo Ceramics Festival 2025 offers a rare opportunity to witness craftsmanship in action, set against the stunning backdrop of Gozo’s historic and natural beauty.
