Maltese Filmmaker Wins Best Cinematography at CONTENT2025 in Texas

For writer-director Aleksa Ristović, the award marks the fruit of nearly a decade of solitary filmmaking in Malta, cinema forged from faith, endurance, and vision.

At CONTENT2025 in Texas, Stations of the Cross received the prestigious Award for Best Cinematography. For its creator, Aleksa Ristović, the recognition represents the culmination of years spent pursuing film as both vocation and pilgrimage.

Stations of the Cross is an independent feature written and directed by Ristović, shot entirely in Malta over several years of solitary production. The film unfolds as a meditative journey through suffering, loss, and renewal. Malta’s stone walls, seas, and skies serve not only as backdrop but as metaphor, transforming landscape into prayer, image into testimony.

Working without producers, sponsors, or institutional backing, Ristović carried the burden of writing, shooting, and editing entirely on his own. What might have been seen as limitation became instead an offering: cinema shaped not by resources, but by grace.

Winning at Capernaum Studios, a landmark for faith-based storytelling, marks a turning point. From a small island, and with only the strength of family and friends as support, Ristović’s devotion has reached the world stage.

This award follows earlier recognition in Hollywood and Washington, adding another milestone to Ristović’s journey as a filmmaker.
