Experience the Thrill of the Rolex Middle Sea Race 2025 in Malta

This October, Malta’s Grand Harbour will once again set the stage for one of the world’s most prestigious sailing events, the Rolex Middle Sea Race 2025. Over 120 yachts from around the globe will gather in Valletta to compete in this iconic offshore race, setting sail on Saturday, 18 October 2025.

Founded in 1968, the race is renowned for its challenging 606-nautical-mile course, which takes competitors on an anticlockwise loop around Sicily, passing active volcanoes, rugged coastlines, and open seas before returning to Malta. For visitors, it’s a spectacle that combines world-class sport, breathtaking scenery, and centuries of maritime tradition.

Where and When to Watch

  • Coastal Race: Wednesday, 15 October 2025: Marsamxett Harbour, 09:00 hrs

  • Main Start: Saturday, 18 October 2025:  Grand Harbour, 11:00 hrs

The race start is one of the most dramatic in international sailing. Seven yacht classes will set off at 10-minute intervals, each marked by the firing of the Saluting Battery’s cannons. Spectators can enjoy stunning views from Upper Barrakka Gardens, the Great Siege Bell area, Fort St Angelo, Senglea Point, and the Birgu Waterfront.

On race day, Valletta and the Three Cities will host a vibrant celebration of Maltese culture and maritime heritage.

In Valletta, the In Guardia Reenactment Troupe will march from the Grandmasters’ Palace to Upper Barrakka Gardens. In Birgu, the Jackson Pipe Band, Bormla Scouts, and In Guardia Reenactors will bring the waterfront to life from morning until midday.

Cafés, restaurants, and bars across Valletta, Birgu, Senglea, and Cospicua will join in the festivities, creating a lively harbour atmosphere.

To mark the occasion, Heritage Malta will open two of its most historic sites:
