A Christmas Concert to Lift the Spirit with Joseph Calleja and Marco Mengoni Live in Malta
Malta’s festive season already has a warm atmosphere of its own, yet this December brings an event that adds something truly special. On Friday 19 December 2025, the MFCC in Ta’ Qali will host the much loved Christmas concert led by Maltese tenor Joseph Calleja. This year he welcomes Italian artist Marco Mengoni as guest performer, a partnership that has created genuine excitement among music lovers both locally and abroad.
Calleja’s Christmas concert has become an annual fixture in Malta’s cultural calendar, known for its super elegant atmosphere and its focus on voice, orchestra and seasonal pieces that feel comforting at this time of year. His return is always greeted with enthusiasm, and the addition of Mengoni brings a new spark. Mengoni’s unique sound and seriously impressive career make him a strong match for Calleja, creating an evening shaped around two talented performers who approach music with honesty and skill.
The Malta Philharmonic Orchestra will accompany them under the direction of Maestro Aurelio Belli. With their steady presence and rich sound, the orchestra helps set the tone for a night of festive favourites and well loved operatic numbers. The BOV Joseph Calleja Children’s Choir will also join the stage, bringing a heartwarming touch that always sits nicely within a Christmas concert.
Both artists have spoken warmly about the occasion. Calleja notes that the festive season carries a particular kind of joy, and performing at home remains meaningful to him. Mengoni’s involvement brings an international element to the event while still keeping the atmosphere personal and inviting.
The MFCC venue provides a spacious and comfortable setting, allowing the voices and orchestra to take centre stage. For travellers visiting Malta in December, the concert offers a chance to experience a local tradition that highlights the islands’ appreciation for music and culture.
The event is organised by Greatt and supported by Visit Malta, the Tourism Ministry and Bank of Valletta, whose backing helps maintain the concert’s standard and continuity.
Tickets are already on sale here, and securing seats early is strongly recommended.
