New Maltese Film ‘Unur, Fama u Glorja’ to Premiere at Eden Cinemas This May
A new Maltese short film exploring grief, guilt, and redemption is set to make its local debut later this month. Unur, Fama u Glorja, written and directed by Fabrizio Fenech, will premiere at Eden Cinemas on Wednesday, 28 May 2026.
Produced by the same team behind Ciao Ciao, the film is set within the intense world of competitive boxing and follows Pawlu, a former coach grappling with the emotional and psychological aftermath of a tragic accident during a championship fight. As he navigates isolation and inner turmoil, Pawlu is forced to confront the consequences of his past and seek a path toward acceptance.
The short film delves deeply into themes of grief, loss, and reconciliation, with a particular focus on complex human relationships, including a layered father-son dynamic. Central to the story is Pawlu’s journey through emotional healing, supported by interactions within a group led by Fr. Keith, where shared experiences of brokenness open the door to understanding and, ultimately, peace
Unur, Fama u Glorja has already made a strong impression on the international festival circuit. It earned Best Editing at the Lift-Off Berlin Film Festival, reached the semi-finals at the Venezia Short Film Festival, and was officially selected at the Stockholm Film Festival—marking it as a notable achievement for Maltese cinema on a global stage.
The film features a local ensemble cast including Peter Galea, Michaela Farrugia, Charles Sammut, Zack Coleiro, Kurt Magri, and Angele Galea.
Speaking about the project, director Fenech described the film as “an emotional and grounded cinematic journey” that explores the weight of personal responsibility and the difficult road toward forgiveness. Through its characters, the film presents different facets of human vulnerability, each reflecting the struggle to find meaning after trauma.
The premiere is expected to draw local film enthusiasts and industry figures alike, continuing the growing momentum of Malta’s film scene and its increasing recognition abroad.
