Selfmade Malta Brings Artisan Market to the Sliema Arts Festival This Weekend

Selfmade Malta is set to bring together around 40 local creatives as it curates the artisan market at this year’s Sliema Arts Festival, taking place from 17 to 19 July. Over three days, the market will showcase a diverse selection of handmade products, offering visitors the opportunity to discover local craftsmanship while meeting the artisans behind each creation.

As part of one of Malta’s leading cultural festivals, the artisan market will complement a programme of art, music and performances, creating a space where culture and Malta’s creative community come together. From handmade jewellery and ceramics to artwork, home décor, fashion accessories and natural products, the market will celebrate the talent and passion of Malta’s growing artisan community.

“This is undoubtedly our biggest project yet,” said Johann Agius, Partner at Selfmade Malta. “When we were approached to organise the artisan market for the Sliema Arts Festival, we immediately recognised the opportunity to showcase the incredible talent that exists within Malta’s creative community. Being part of one of the country’s leading artistic festivals is both an honour and an exciting challenge, and we can’t wait to see so many talented makers sharing the space with the festival’s artists.”

The festival also marks an important milestone for Selfmade Malta. Following two years of organising artisan markets across Malta, the organisation has recently been officially established as a partnership by founders Nicole Borg, Elenia Borg, Johann Agius and Jessica Magro, strengthening its long-term commitment to supporting local creatives.

Founded with the aim of creating markets by creatives, for creatives, Selfmade Malta has become a recognised platform for artisans seeking accessible opportunities to showcase and grow their businesses. Since hosting its first market at Fort St Elmo, the organisation has continued to build a supportive community that places makers at the centre of every event.

“Our artisans will always be at the heart of everything we do,” said Jessica Magro, partner at Selfmade Malta. “The Sliema Arts Festival is an incredible opportunity for our makers to connect with new audiences and celebrate the craftsmanship behind every handmade product. As we continue to grow as an organisation, our focus remains on creating meaningful opportunities that benefit the artisan community.”

The artisan market at the Sliema Arts Festival represents another exciting step in Selfmade Malta’s journey, bringing together artists, makers and visitors in a celebration of creativity while continuing the organisation’s mission of championing Malta’s local artisan community.
