An Itinerary For This Saturday’s Europride 2023 Events

Christina Aguilera set to perform at Official Europride Concert 2023

Since its Official Opening Ceremony last Thursday, the Europride 2023 festivities have been in full swing. Those who have been to Valletta at any point in the past few days know that it’s brimming with colour and life; with rainbows of all sizes and shapes to be found on nearly every surface. This Saturday is one of the final days of Europride, but fear not, the day is jam-packed with all kinds of events to immerse yourself in.

QUEERing Faith? & the Variety Show

Up first is ‘QUEERing Faith?’. Starting at 9 a.m, ‘QUEERing Faith?’ is a conference organised by Drachma LBTI, a local queer-christian community organisation. The event will feature panels composed of LGBTI+ individuals and their allies, along with other activities dedicated to openly discussing the complexities of balancing queerness and religion as equal parts of one’s identity. At 1 p.m, make sure you grab a seat for The Variety Show. Get ready to be entertained by a diverse line-up of talented Maltese creatives and performers. The acts range from local transgender celebrity Clintess to dance group Dancing Angels, who you may remember from this year’s instalment of Malta’s Got Talent.

Pride March

Later in the evening at 4 p.m, join the community as they return to the roots of Pride and march through Valletta. The March is ofcourse not exclusive to Europride, it’s a global symbol of political and social advancement for queer people. Marches are a reminder that Pride was once a protest, with each stride representing a step into a more inclusive future. That being said, this doesn’t mean it can’t be fun and festive. Hundreds if not thousands of people gather every Pride embellished with colours so vibrant you’d think it’s Christmas. Be part of the kaleidoscope, even if you show up with a small pride flag.

Official Europride Concert

Last but certainly not least, all the events will culminate in the Official Europride Concert, where local and international musical acts alike will take the stage. The concert will be headlined by multi-award winning singer-songwriter Christina Aguilera. The songs Genie in a Bottle, Beautiful and Fighter should ring a bell to pretty much anyone who was around in the 00’s. The supporting acts include Maltese icons we’re all familiar with, namely Ira Losco, The Travellers and Emma Muscat. You can also enjoy performances by Greek singer Katerina Stikoudi, as well as beloved British drag artist QUEENZ.

Evidently, if there’s one day of Europride you don’t want to miss, it’s Saturday. Not to mention, while they may require registration or ticket purchases, all of these events are free of charge! Can’t contain your excitement? There is a broad list of Europride events to attend until then, whether you’re interested in semi-formal group discussions, art exhibitions, or simply want to party. You can check out the official schedule here for more information.

Make sure to get enough sleep next Friday – See you there!
