Malta's Rental E-Kick Scooters Banned as From Today
Effective today, Malta has officially banned the use of rental e-scooters on its streets. The government’s decision to prohibit rental e-kick scooters, announced last October, has now come into effect.
This action was prompted by numerous complaints ranging from haphazard parking to reckless riding, leading to a worrying surge in accidents resulting in severe injuries.
In an effort to offset the limitations on rental scooters, the government has introduced fresh incentives to encourage the adoption of personal e-kick scooters. Individuals purchasing their own personal e-kick scooter are now eligible for a €150 incentive, provided by the government as the rental e-kick scooter ban takes effect today.
Administered by Transport Malta, this initiative aims to promote the use of emission-free vehicles while alleviating traffic congestion. To qualify for the €150 grant, individuals must register their personal e-kick scooter with Transport Malta.
This measure reflects the government’s commitment to balancing safety concerns with the promotion of sustainable transportation options. By incentivising the ownership of personal e-kick scooters, Malta aims to foster a safer and more environmentally friendly urban mobility landscape.
