Join the Celebrations of Freedom Day at Fort St Angelo This Saturday
This Saturday 23 March, head to Fort St Angelo for an exciting day centred around the Freedom Day Regatta, which has been scheduled a week earlier this year due to Easter Sunday.
Attendees will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a variety of activities celebrating Maltese history, traditions, and culture.
Fort St Angelo, known for its grandeur, will be accessible at a reduced entry fee, providing an excellent viewpoint for observing the rowing events in the nearby creek.
This year marks an inaugural collaboration with the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, allowing the public unprecedented access to the Magistral Palace situated within the fort’s upper precincts. This medieval palace, integral to Malta’s rich history, was once the official residence of the Grand Masters of the Order of St John from 1530 to 1558. Visitors will have the exclusive opportunity to explore the historic halls where significant moments unfolded, with admission priced at a nominal fee of 3 euros. Additionally, this experience is included in the Biennale combo ticket, offering more avenues for exploration.
Running from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, the day promises a packed schedule of engaging activities for all ages. Highlights include the traditional Regatta featuring 11 races across four types of rowing boats, with teams from various Maltese cities competing for the esteemed ‘Palju’ prize.
Other attractions include a child-friendly exhibition showcasing swords and arms, a costume section bringing historical costume-making to life, a music section allowing children to explore various instruments firsthand, and a storyteller section captivating audiences with tales of intrigue and history.
Tickets can be purchased online, as well as at museums and sites. They will also be available for purchase at the door. It’s important to note that the last admission to the fort will be at 5:30 pm.
