Malta's Sarah Bonnici Faces Tough Odds for Eurovision Victory

Malta’s chances in the Eurovision Song Contest don’t seem promising, with Sarah Bonnici’s entry, ‘Loop’, currently ranking last alongside several other countries like Albania, Portugal, San Marino, and Moldova.

Bookmakers give slim chances of Sarah Bonnici securing a win for Malta, even casting doubts on her song making it through to finals. According to eurovisionworld, Bonnici has less than a one percent chance of winning the contest.

In the odds for Semi-Final 2, where she is set to perform first,  ‘Loop’ is placed 15th out of 16, just ahead of Czechia and below San Marino. Overall, Malta ranks 37th with a winning chance of under 1%. Switzerland’s ‘The Code’ by Nemo leads the favourites with a 25% chance of winning, followed by Croatia’s ‘Baby Lasagna’ (17%) and Netherlands’ ‘Joost Klein’ (15%).

Sarah Bonnici, the 25-year-old singer from Gozo, won over Malta in the national selection, showing she’s prepared to give her best regardless of the outcome.

The young performer, a familiar face on the big stage, started singing at 9 and participated in various international competitions. She co-wrote ‘Loop’ with Eurovision-winning writers Linnea Deb and Joy Deb, along with Leire Gotxi Angel, Sebastian Pritchard-James, Kevin-Lee, and Michael Joe Cini.

The first semi-final on 7 May will see 15 countries battle it out for a place in the finals. Following this, two days later, the second semi-final will unfold, featuring another 16 countries, Malta included, engaging in a heated battle for advancement.

May Sarah’s talent and dedication shine brightly on the stage, regardless of the odds stacked against her!
