Malta Named Most Desirable Island in Europe by Wanderlust Magazine

Malta has been crowned the ‘Most Desirable Island (Europe)’ at the 23rd Annual Wanderlust Reader Travel Awards, cementing its status as one of Europe’s premiere travel destinations. Known for its unique charm and unforgettable experiences, Malta topped the category, surpassing Ireland and Madeira, which earned Silver and Bronze, respectively.

The awards ceremony, held on 6 November at London’s iconic Tate Modern, celebrated excellence across 22 categories in the travel industry. Hosted by comedian and travel presenter Jack Whitehall, the event saw a record-breaking 3.5 million votes cast by 168,000 Wanderlust readers.

“This recognition from Wanderlust highlights Malta’s irresistible appeal and the unforgettable experiences it offers every visitor”, said Tolene van der Merwe, Director for the UK and Ireland.

Malta’s commitment to inclusivity was also recognised earlier in October when it received the ‘Aspire Inclusive Initiative of the Year Award’. This accolade celebrated the country’s efforts to promote accessibility and diversity in tourism, including hosting EuroPride 2023 and enhancing facilities for visitors of all abilities.

With these accolades, Malta continues to stand out as a destination that offers both world-class experiences and a welcoming environment for all.
