five outdoor activities in gozo

Malta is preparing for a cold and windy festive season, with the latest forecast from the Meteorological Office predicting strong winds and chilly temperatures over the coming days.

It’s beginning to look a lot like… a windy Christmas! Malta is in for a blustery and chilly Christmas Day, with strong north-northwest winds gusting at Force 5 to 6. While temperatures will peak at a modest 14°C during the day and drop to a nippy 8°C by night, the wind chill will make it feel much colder—so this might not be the year for al fresco Christmas lunches!

Expect mostly cloudy skies with the occasional shower popping up to keep things exciting. If you’re planning to brave the elements, arm yourself with plenty of layers and a sturdy umbrella (bonus points if it doesn’t flip inside out in the wind). As evening rolls in, the winds will ease slightly, shifting to a north-northeast direction at Force 3 to 4—just enough for you to hear your Christmas carols over the whistling gusts!

The weather will turn a little friendlier on Boxing Day, giving everyone a much-needed break from the blustery conditions. Winds will calm to moderate levels, and temperatures will nudge upwards, with a daytime high of 15°C and a nighttime low of 7°C.

The calmer weather will make it a perfect day to burn off those Christmas calories with a relaxed walk or simply to enjoy some fresh air without your scarf threatening to take flight. It’s also a great opportunity to meet friends and family outdoors without worrying about dodging hail or battling gale-force winds!

So, whether you’re spending Christmas indoors or venturing out for a Boxing Day stroll, be sure to wrap up warm and enjoy the festive season in true Maltese style.
