Malta Philharmonic Orchestra to Bring Carlo Diacono’s L’Alpino to Life This January
Music enthusiasts are in for a treat as the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO), in collaboration with the Valletta Cultural Agency (VCA), presents Carlo Diacono’s powerful opera L’Alpino. This one-night-only concert performance is set to take place on Thursday, 31 January 2025, from 7:30pm to 9:30pm at Teatru Manoel, Valletta.
Under the masterful direction of Michael Laus, the MPO will bring to life Diacono’s dramatic masterpiece, which celebrates courage, love, and resilience. Set against the breathtaking yet perilous backdrop of the Italian Alps, L’Alpino follows the journey of an Italian mountain soldier navigating battles, loss, and the unyielding hardships of war. The opera pays homage to the bravery of the Alpini troops, blending traditional operatic elements with evocative orchestration that vividly captures the grandeur of the Alps and the emotional depths of its characters.
The performance boasts an exceptional cast, featuring: Miriam Cauchi as Nella, Nicola Said as Anna Rosa, Alan Sciberras as Enzo, Louis Andrew Cassar as Andrea, Noel Galea as Franz, Mariaconcetta Calafiore and Anita Vella Bondin as Due Compagne.
The Goldberg Ensemble Choir will also join the MPO, enhancing the opera’s depth and emotional resonance.
