KorMalta to Present a Concert of Sacred Music Celebrating Hope, Loss, and Faith This February

The KorMalta Ensemble will take audiences on a profound musical journey on Saturday 1 February, presenting a concert that explores the themes of passage, loss, hope, and faith. The performance, Shipwrecks and Victories, will take place at St Paul’s Cathedral, and promises to be a powerful reflection on the sacred in human life, as the ensemble presents a program that spans both early vocal music and contemporary Maltese compositions.

The concert will feature works that embody the human longing to connect with the divine, expressing the deepest spiritual emotions through the purity of the human voice. While early vocal music traditionally conveyed the sacred through unadulterated melody, modern composers have expanded these expressions, blending dissonance, innovative rhythms, and cultural influences to create a new, vibrant language for the divine.

Under the direction of conductor Riccardo Bianchi, the KorMalta Ensemble will guide the audience from the echoes of an ancient chivalric motto to the cutting-edge sound explorations of contemporary Maltese composers. The program will serve as a reminder that even in moments of loss, every end holds the potential for a new beginning, and that through courage, every battle can become a triumphant song of victory.

The concert will feature the voices of Marouska Attard and Alexandra Camilleri Gambin (sopranos), Bianca Simone and Nicole Vassallo (altos), César Jésus Herrera and Jester Rosales (tenors), and Albert Buttigieg (bass), who will join forces to bring this sacred musical tribute to life.

This evening of sacred music promises to be both a celebration of Malta’s indomitable spirit and a deep meditation on the enduring connection between humanity and the divine.
