New Ferry Service Connecting Sliema, Buġibba, and Gozo to Launch by End of August

A new fast ferry service connecting Sliema, Buġibba, and Gozo is set to launch by the end of August, offering a faster and more scenic way to travel between Malta’s main coastal destinations. The route was officially announced during the inauguration of a new ferry terminal and breakwater in Buġibba, and forms part of Malta’s broader strategy to ease road congestion by promoting sea-based transport.

The ferry will operate between Mġarr (Gozo), Buġibba, and Sliema, linking three of Malta’s most visited areas. The standard one-way fare between Sliema and Gozo will be €8.50. Tal-Linja card holders will pay €6.50, while Gozo ID holders will benefit from a reduced fare of €2.25. Students will pay €4.50, seniors and people with disabilities €3.00, and children under 10 will be charged €4.00. Children under three and individuals with public hospital appointments will be able to travel for free.

The leg between Gozo and Buġibba will cost €6.50 for standard passengers and €2.00 for Gozo residents. The stretch between Sliema and Buġibba will be free of charge for Tal-Linja card holders, making it an attractive option for regular commuters and visitors staying along the coast.

This new service will complement existing ferry routes between Gozo and Valletta, as well as Gozo and Ċirkewwa, offering visitors and locals more flexibility in planning their trips. With its convenient schedule and competitive pricing, the new ferry is expected to become a popular choice for exploring the islands by sea.
