Katy Perry Set to Roar in Malta as Isle of MTV’s 2026 Headliner

There are summer announcements, and then there are summer announcements. This one firmly belongs in the latter camp.

Global pop powerhouse Katy Perry is set to headline this year’s Isle of MTV Malta, and if you needed an excuse to book that flight, consider it officially sorted. The annual open-air concert, staged at the Floriana Granaries each July, has long been a fixture of the island’s social calendar, but 2026 is shaping up to be something rather special.

Tourism Minister Ian Borg hinted as much earlier this week, teasing what he described as “possibly the biggest headliner ever”. Not a claim made lightly, and certainly not one that feels exaggerated now that Perry’s name is firmly on the top of the bill.

For the uninitiated, Perry is one of those super rare artists whose songs seem to exist everywhere at once. A 13-time Grammy nominee with a catalogue that reads like a greatest hits playlist, she has spent well over a decade soundtracking everything from questionable dance floors to long car journeys. Think Roar, Firework, California Gurls and I Kissed a Girl, all songs that have an uncanny ability to surface in your head uninvited and stay there. She also famously went to space, and gained lots of loyal fans as an X Factor judge.

Her 2010 album Teenage Dream alone secured her a place in pop history, producing five number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100, a feat few have managed. Add to that over 121 million digital single sales in the United States, and you begin to understand the scale of what’s arriving on Malta’s shores this summer.

Isle of MTV Malta has been doing this since 2007 on the islands, assembling an impressive roll call of performers, year in year out. Lady Gaga, Snoop Dogg, David Guetta and Jason Derulo have all taken to the stage over the years, but Perry’s arrival feels like a particularly bright jewel in the crown. The Floriana Granaries (just outside of Valletta), or il-Fosos as locals call it, transforms each July into a sea of people, music and warm night air, where strangers become temporary friends and everyone knows at least half the lyrics.

There is also a small, charming footnote for those who enjoy a sense of continuity, Perry has technically brushed past Malta before, appearing in the music video for Starstrukk by 3OH!3, with Valletta providing the backdrop. A fleeting connection, perhaps, but one that now feels like a prelude to this epic show. Her performance will form part of her upcoming Lifetimes Tour, supporting her seventh studio album 143, and notably, it will be her first ever show in Malta.

As ever, Isle of MTV remains free to attend, which feels almost implausible given the scale of what’s on offer. Further details on the full line-up and schedule are expected in the coming weeks, but if history is anything to go by, this will be less of a concert and more of a full-blown summer rite of passage. Will you be attending? Let us know in the comments below!
