The Chapel Door, Featuring Maltese Cast, Earns Third US Award
Maltese-based filmmaker Aleksa Ristovic continues to make waves internationally, as his award-winning short film The Chapel Door adds another milestone to its growing list of achievements.
Fresh from winning Best International Short Film at the Maryland International Film Festival, the film was also showcased at the Knoxville International Christian Film Festival, held in Pigeon Forge. The festival took place in collaboration with the RiseUp Convention Tennessee, bringing together filmmakers, actors and industry professionals from across the Christian entertainment sector.
Led by festival founder Rob Ekno, the event provided Ristovic with an opportunity to connect with creatives working within the American faith-based film industry. The welcoming atmosphere in Tennessee contributed to what the filmmaker described as a spiritually uplifting and inspiring experience.
Featuring standout performances by Maltese actors Henry Zammit Cordina and Josette Ciappara, The Chapel Door continues to resonate with international audiences while carrying a distinct Maltese identity.
The recognition in Tennessee marks the film’s third award in the United States, further cementing Ristovic’s growing presence on the international stage. He also expressed thanks to Maryland festival supporter Drew Broadhurst, along with those backing his ongoing work.
Looking ahead, Ristovic is preparing for the world premiere of his debut feature film, Illusion of Faith, a spiritual drama set in Malta. The premiere is scheduled to take place this June in Los Angeles.
The upcoming release follows the success of his earlier short, Stations of the Cross, which received multiple awards in the United States in 2025.
Reflecting on the journey so far, Ristovic described the moment simply: “Another beautiful milestone. Grateful, always.”
