7 Beaches in Malta with the Bluest Water

Blue Lagoon, Comino

Some beaches are nice. Others make you stop mid-scroll and wonder if someone accidentally uploaded a photo from the Caribbean. Malta’s coastline is full of those “wait… this is actually Europe?” moments, with crystal-clear waters, dramatic cliffs and swimming spots that look almost too blue to be real.

From famous lagoons to hidden rocky pools, these are seven places where the sea truly steals the show.

Blue Lagoon, Comino

The one everyone has seen, and for good reason. The Blue Lagoon’s bright turquoise waters have made it one of Malta’s most photographed spots, attracting visitors who come to swim, snorkel and float around pretending they’re in a luxury island advert.

Yes, it can get busy (especially in summer), but arriving early rewards you with some of the clearest water in the Mediterranean. The colour alone is worth the trip.

St Peter’s Pool, Marsaxlokk

A natural swimming pool carved into the limestone coast, St Peter’s Pool is a favourite among locals looking for a more rugged seaside escape. The water here is an incredible shade of blue-green, and the flat rocks make the perfect sunbathing spots, if you don’t mind sharing them with a few fearless cliff jumpers.

It’s wild, beautiful and very Maltese: no fancy facilities, just rocks, sea and a view worth the drive south.

Paradise Bay, Mellieħa

Tucked away near the northern tip of Malta, Paradise Bay lives up to its name. The small sandy beach is surrounded by rocky cliffs and offers wonderfully clear water that’s perfect for swimming and snorkelling.

It’s also one of those beaches where the journey down feels like part of the adventure, and the walk back up reminds you that Malta’s summer sun means business.

Hondoq ir-Rummien, Gozo

A little slice of Gozo with big tropical energy. Hondoq ir-Rummien is known for its calm, transparent waters, making it a favourite for swimming and snorkelling.

With views stretching towards Comino and Malta in the distance, it’s the kind of place where you can easily lose track of time, and possibly forget you were supposed to leave hours ago.

Riviera, Mellieħa

Wild, golden and surrounded by dramatic countryside, Riviera is one of Malta’s most beautiful beaches. The water here shifts between deep blue and turquoise depending on the light, creating that postcard-perfect Mediterranean scene.

The climb down (and back up) the famous steps is part of the experience… think of it as earning your swim.

Fomm ir-Riħ, Mġarr

The wild card. Remote, dramatic and rarely crowded. The water is beautiful, but the steep walk means it’s not for everyone, more “adventure beach” than easy holiday beach.

Ramla Bay, Gozo

With its distinctive orange-red sand and crystal-clear waters, Ramla Bay is unlike any other beach in Malta or Gozo. The dramatic colour of the sand paired with the turquoise sea creates one of Gozo’s most memorable landscapes.

It’s the kind of beach that makes you understand why locals keep returning…even after years of island life.

From the electric blue waters of Comino to the wild coastline of the south, Malta proves you don’t need to travel far to find postcard-worthy beaches. Just remember the sunscreen, that Mediterranean sun has a habit of winning every argument.
