Malta’s Maltese Sausage Fest Returns with Traditional Food and Entertainment
Food lovers visiting Malta can discover one of the island’s most traditional flavours at Maltese Sausage Day, taking place on 31 July at the Public Abattoir in Marsa. The evening event celebrates the beloved Maltese sausage with local food, live entertainment and a taste of Malta’s culinary heritage.

Maltese Sausage Fest 2026 returns to the Public Abattoir in Marsa on Friday, 31 July from 8pm, inviting locals and visitors to celebrate one of Malta’s most iconic traditional foods: the Maltese sausage (zalzett Malti).
A staple of Maltese kitchens for generations, the sausage is known for its distinctive flavour, made with a blend of pork, spices and local herbs. Whether enjoyed in a traditional sandwich, cooked on the grill or served as part of a hearty Maltese dish, it remains a favourite piece of the island’s culinary identity.
During the evening, visitors can sample a variety of dishes featuring the Maltese sausage while discovering other local products from Maltese farmers, producers and food businesses. It is a great opportunity for tourists looking to experience authentic Maltese flavours beyond the typical restaurant menu.
The festival will also feature live music, a children’s area and family activities, creating a relaxed evening where food, culture and entertainment come together.
Organised by the Ministry for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights in collaboration with private sector partners, the event forms part of ongoing efforts to support local producers and promote Malta’s agricultural heritage.
Agriculture Minister Anton Refalo said that choosing local products helps support farmers, livestock breeders and producers, while preserving traditions that are closely tied to Malta’s identity.
The event will also shine a spotlight on the work carried out at the Marsa Public Abattoir, including recent improvements to its facilities and initiatives focused on developing and preserving Malta’s traditional meat products.
