Harmony of Hope: concert in aid of cancer research at University of Malta this Friday
This Friday, October 20, Sir Temi Żammit Hall at the University of Malta will serve as a venue for a live concert with a cause, ‘Harmony of Hope’. The Research Innovation & Development Trust (RIDT) was established by the Maltese government in 2011 to raise funds as well as awareness for university research projects.
This production is for all the family, featuring 19 singers and seven musicians performing such iconic songs as ‘What a Wonderful World’ by Louis Armstrong, ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’ by Elvis Presley, and ‘Green Green Grass’ by George Ezra. Maltese songs haven’t been forgotten either, multiple beloved Maltese songs will be performed including Glen Vella’s ‘Ħarsa Biss’, as well as Mark Spiteri Lucas and Debbie Scerri’s ‘Meravilja’.
Furthermore, the featured performers are the following; Gloriana, Corazon tenor Georg Zammit, Danica Muscat, Kurt Anthony, Laura Bruno, Leontine, Mark Tonna, Christian Arding, Ivan and Krista Spiteri Lucas, Martina Fenech, and Nicole Vella. The singers will be accompanied by The Spiteri Lucas Band.
Tickets are priced at €20, though the proceeds will help support ongoing research projects, supply funding for innovative technology, and speed up the creation of updated treatments to better the lives of cancer patients. In a statement, the CEO of the RIDT, Wilfred Kenely expressed gratitude towards the researchers, musicians, sponsors, and attendees who are “making this event possible”. He said “Cancer affects us all, and by coming together in harmony, we can make a real impact on the future of cancer research and treatment.
