Gabriel Caruana Foundation announces Third Collective Exhibition for SPRING Artistic Programme
On February 9, a new exhibition is hitting The Mill – Art, Culture and Crafts Centre in Birkirkara.
‘Long to Belong’ is being held by the Gabriel Caruana Foundation, a non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting and promoting contemporary art in Malta. Following ‘No Time To Spare’, this is their third collective exhibition, forming part of the SPRING Artistic Programme for Emerging Artists 2022 to 2024.
‘Long to Belong’ explores concepts of the house, the colloquial, the known, and the community. The idea was created conceptually and curated by Elyse Tonna, the Co-Creative Director and Curator. The exhibition will showcase artwork by Sephora Schembri, Giola Cassar and Aprille Zammit, and Mono2Mass. Their works will profoundly tackle themes of the complex relationships between home, dialect, familiarity, and community in a society polarised and detached from one another. The aim is to stimulate contemplative discussion and foster a subjective notion of an integrated sense of belonging.
The Creative Process, creative Programming, and Engagement Process are the three interconnected threads that make up the SPRING Programme. Throughout this three-part process, the featured artists received mentorship from Elyse Tonna for the Creative Process, Raffaella Zammit who oversaw the Artistic Programming, Martina Camilleri who led the Engagement Process. This exhibition is the third instalment of this initiative.
‘Long to Belong’ launches at The Mill on February 9 at 7 pm. It will then remain open on Wednesdays through Fridays from 5 pm to 7 pm until March 1. An Artist and Curator Talk, as well as a workshop, is expected to be announced later on. Furthermore, this event is supported by Arts Council Malta.
