Malta Sets Record for Smallest Carnival Float
The Malta carnival has once again impressed spectators, this time with a record-breaking achievement. The event saw the debut of the smallest carnival float ever recorded, measuring just 2.3 feet in length (approximately 70cm), 1 foot in width, and 1.11 feet in height. Impressively, the entire structure was made from recycled materials, proving that creativity and sustainability can go hand in hand..
This creation was brought to life by Josef Ciappara, his wife Chantelle, and their young son Matteo, to whom the float was dedicated. Their combined efforts resulted in an intricate float featuring a sturdy frame, papier-mâché, and even moving parts—showcasing a level of craftsmanship rarely seen at such a scale.
The float’s design is a tribute to local traditions, featuring a double-sided display. One side depicts a Scotsman riding a cow, while the other shows a woman, both adorned with the bright fluorescent colours that are a staple of Malta’s carnival celebrations.
The journey of this record-breaking float was meticulously planned. Photos from the creative process reveal detailed sketches and the careful construction that went into transforming the vision into reality.
Malta Records, proud to document this achievement, continues to celebrate and promote the immense talent of the Maltese and Gozitan communities.
Congratulations to Josef, Chantelle, and Matteo for their remarkable contribution to this year’s Malta Carnival!
