Winners of the 2025 Malta Carnival Competitions Announced

1st Pace - Triton Carnival Company

The 2025 Malta Carnival came to a dazzling conclusion following a weekend of epic parades, flamboyant costumes, and massive floats that brightened the streets of Floriana and Valletta. Known for its rich history and lively atmosphere, the carnival once again delivered a breathtaking display of creativity and artistry, with various categories of competitions that showcased the exceptional talent of local carnival companies.

This year’s competition included four categories of triumphal floats—Sections A, B, C, and D—creating a league-style system where winners are promoted to higher sections, while others face relegation. The floats were judged based on size, number of moving elements, and overall presentation, with Section A being the most prestigious and challenging category.

2nd Place - Dreamteam Carnival Company

Triumphal Floats – Section A
In the top tier, the Triton Carnival Company stole the show for the second consecutive year, securing the first prize with their float titled ‘Una Notte Con Le Stelle’. Led by Joswa Borg, Ronnie Spiteri, and Ronald Ghiller, the float mesmerised visitors with its intricate design and impressive moving elements.

The second prize was awarded to the Dreamteam Carnival Company for their float ‘Mat-Tribù, il-Ä ungla esplorajna, u araw ma’ min iltqajna’, directed by Alvin Livori, Jeremy Mercieca, and Clint Zammit.

Section B - 1st Place- TotoPerzuta

Triumphal Floats – Sections B, C, and D
In Section B, ‘Ir-rota ddur u fuq il-bieraħ nibnu l-futur’ by TotoPerżuta Carnival Company, led by Rodrick and Raymond Zerafa, claimed the top spot. Meanwhile, the Twins Carnival Company triumphed in Section C with their lively float ‘Buffi u mużika differenti żammew in-nies kuntenti’, directed by Tonio Scerri and Maurizio Zahra. In Section D, the Lion Hearts Family & Friends Carnival Company won first place with ‘Suppost Ä¡ejna għall-kwiet, u spiċċajna f’balla nkwiet’, a float led by David Gatt.

Youth and Dance Competitions
The younger talents also shined brightly during the carnival. In the Children’s Section C, the Tarxien Lookstars Dancers won first place with their performance ‘Together We Can Fly’, led by Gabriella Stagno Piscopo. The dance competitions were equally fierce, with Beqqu Stiefnu Carnival Company’s ‘Moulin Rouge’ sweeping the awards in Section A for costume, float, and dance categories.

Artistic Installations and Other Highlights
The artistic installation competition was another highlight of the carnival, with ‘Nemo’ by Griffiths Carnival Team, led by Randon Griffiths and Riccardo Napoli, taking first prize. Their installation captured the imagination of the audience with its vibrant colors and detailed craftsmanship.

Despite the high level of competition, some categories saw no winners, such as the Maskeruni contest, where no participants qualified for the top two positions. However, the overall spirit of the carnival remained high, celebrating the hard work and passion of all participants.

The 2025 Malta carnival not only upheld its long-standing tradition of joy and creativity but also set new standards. As the confetti settled and the music faded, it was clear that the essence of the carnival—unity, joy, and cultural pride—remained stronger than ever. With plans already underway for next year’s edition, the anticipation for even grander floats and more spectacular performances is building, promising another unforgettable celebration of Maltese culture and creativity.
