Booking Now Required to Visit Comino’s Blue Lagoon

As from tomorrow, 1 May 2025, a new online booking system will come into effect to manage visitor numbers at Comino’s Blue Lagoon, a Natura 2000 protected site. The initiative, led by the Malta Tourism Authority in collaboration with the Tourism Ministry and various other entities, aims to safeguard the site’s delicate ecosystem while improving the overall visitor experience.

Under the campaign slogan “Book, Protect, Enjoy”. all individuals or groups arriving by private or commercial vessels must book a free time slot at bluelagooncomino.mt before setting foot at the Blue Lagoon. Visitors can choose from three daily time slots:

  • 08:00–13:00
  • 13:30–17:30
  • 18:00–22:00

After booking, visitors receive a QR code via email, which they must present upon arrival to receive a wristband granting access for the selected time slot.

The system limits the number of visitors to 4,000 per time slot, a significant reduction from the 12,000+ visitors recorded during peak times in summer 2024. Entry without a valid booking will not be allowed and may result in a fine. On-site staff will assist those unfamiliar with the new process in its initial weeks.

This is the first major step in a two-year project led by Team Blue Lagoon, involving multiple ministries and agencies. Upcoming measures include:

  • Safer, extended swimming areas
  • Enhanced waste management
  • Additional sanitation facilities
  • Stronger enforcement

Further stakeholder consultations are set to begin soon, with additional long-term conservation plans to be implemented by summer 2026.
